Abstract
Né outre-Rhin, l’ordolibéralisme est devenu la pierre angulaire de la construction européenne. L’adhésion à cette doctrine tient, certes, au poids de l’Allemagne et à l’emprise du néolibéralisme. Mais surtout, l’ordolibéralisme offre des règles parfaitement adaptées à la gestion d’une union économique et monétaire rétive à toute intégration politique. Soucieux de préserver leurs souverainetés, les États membres ont ainsi mis en place un fédéralisme tutélaire peu démocratique, axé sur des principes de rigueur et de surveillance multilatérale. En réalité, l’ordolibéralisme originel ne s’arrête pas à l’économie. Il propose aussi une vision du monde dont le contenu social et humaniste interpelle et ouvre des débats sur l’Europe face à son avenir.
