Abstract
Résumé L'Irak est, en termes géopolitiques, une zone de « confins » de plusieurs ensembles : ligne de fracture entre l'islam sunnite et chiite, frontière entre le monde arabe d'une part, et les mondes persan et turc d'autre part. L'actuelle guerre d'Irak semble un révélateur des défis de notre temps où les identités, les religions et les cultures occupent une place particulière dans les ressorts de la conflictualité. À la place d'un idéal « nouveau Moyen-Orient » promis par les idéologues néoconservateurs, c'est plutôt le scénario désastreux du choc des civilisations qui semble se réaliser. Il est prématuré de juger aujourd'hui l'entreprise américaine dans l'ancienne Mésopotamie, mais la « libanisation » de la situation irakienne incite à s'interroger sur l'influence du facteur religieux.
