Abstract
Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o aumento da inserção dos povos indígenas no ensino superior a partir do Programa de Expansão e Reestruturação das Instituições de Ensino Superior - REUNI, reconhecendo a importância da formação superior para os estudantes indígenas do país. De modo particular, fizemos o recorte de uma entrevista realizada com um indígena Xokó de Sergipe, a fim de perceber como se dá o entrelaçamento entre o indivíduo e o coletivo materializado na figura do indígena no ensino superior e os reflexos provocados em suas comunidades. Em termos metodológicos, dialogamos com a análise de conteúdo, a História Oral em uma abordagem qualitativa de caráter descritivo interpretativa. As fontes nos permitiram avaliar desde a continuação desses indígenas no envolvimento com as suas comunidades, até a adoção de uma responsabilidade e um papel social enquanto intelectuais na universidade, provocando importantes mudanças no seio do seu povo.
