Abstract
Abstract Timoleon (ca. 410–ca. 335 bce ) was a Corinthian aristocrat and general who, with his campaigns against the Carthaginians and the Greek tyrants of Sicily in the third quarter of the fourth century bce , based on the principle of freedom of the cities, decisively changed the geopolitical, social, and economic configuration of the island, which from then on enjoyed a period of peace and prosperity. The main sources (Diodorus, Nepos, and Plutarch) are late and present contradictions, but coincide in their hagiographic character, derived from the lost work of Timaeus of Tauromenium.
