Deux préfaces sont écrites respectivement par Réal Laporte et par Debra Dollard.La première permet d'appréhender le contexte de l'ouvrage et sa contribution attendue, à savoir offrir une démarche structurée pour accompagner l'amélioration dans la réalisation des projets et leur contribution à la réussite des stratégies organisationnelles.La seconde, plus orientée vers le secteur public, permet de situer la recherche de maturité et le plan d'action afférent comme vecteur de création de valeur rappelant l'historique de collaboration avec les auteurs à ce sujet.L'avant-propos permet aux auteurs de préciser le périmètre de l'ouvrage : l'évaluation de la maturité en gestion de projet et en gestion organisationnelle de projet.Ils ajoutent : « À notre connaissance, le premier ouvrage en français à aborder directement ces questions.» Le contenu est ancré dans les résultats de travaux de recherche-action et d'interventions dans diverses organisations.Après une brève définition du concept de maturité, les auteurs précisent que l'ouvrage couvre deux aspects : la maturité en gestion de projet et la maturité en gestion organisationnelle de projet.La genèse de l'œuvre est ensuite présentée.Puis, l'avant-propos est conclu par une argumentation quant à « l'intérêt d'entreprendre une évaluation de la maturité en gestion de projet et en gestion organisationnelle de projet », car conduisant à l'amélioration de la performance dans les deux aspects couverts.
