Abstract
In Commun : Essai sur la révolution au XXIe siècle , philosopher Pierre Dardot and sociologist Christian Laval predict: The world will not be protected by establishing a sort of reserve for “common natural goods” (land, water, air, forests, etc.) [to which we must add literature, arts, aisthesis …] “miraculously” protected from the indefinite expansion of capitalism. All activities and regions interact with it. So, it is not so much about protecting the “goods” essential to human survival than profoundly transforming the economy and society by overturning the system of norms that are now threatening humanity and nature in a very direct way. ( Dardot and Laval 2014 : 13) Their book-manifesto broke new ground in the French intellectual landscape by opening it up to reflections on the sharing of resources in a finite world, as introduced by Elinor Ostrom (1990) , Nobel Prize winner in Economics. Dardot and Laval are outraged that the future is being confiscated by the tragedy of non-commons that is emerging from the contemporary cataclysm of economic war and ecological crisis. In response, they call for all disciplines to wake up.
