Abstract
Révélé par de récentes recherches comme figure de l’antiquarisme provincial, l’abbé Carlier (1732-1818), collectionneur installé à Bavay dans le Nord, s’est constitué une boîte à outils afin d’enregistrer sa collection et la faire rayonner. Comptant un carnet de dessins légendés, une petite dizaine de cahiers d’inventaire et quelques lettres, cet ensemble d’archives ayant accompagné les pérégrinations de la collection de l’antiquaire bavaisien a peu à peu été transformé en objet patrimonial. En s’appuyant principalement sur l’exemple du carnet de dessins légendés de l’abbé Carlier, le processus de valorisation de ces documents sera analysé en mettant en perspective les motivations de l’abbé Carlier au moment de leur production, celles de ses héritiers lors de sa succession et enfin celles qui président aujourd’hui à leur conservation et leur valorisation.
