At setting the context for predictions, we see the inherent value of predictive analysis. Data has always driven important technological decisions and developments and still constitutes a source for shaping research and development directions. Although this has been a source of a level of confidence for discoveries and innovations in technology, in the past, visionary leaders have also steered the direction of important breakthroughs by leaning into the uncertain, as exemplified by how the rise of early personal computing was forecast by early computing scientists.
