Abstract
This chapter tackles the narratives surrounding the internment in Canada's Rocky Mountains National Park. At the start of the war, the designation of enemy alien was introduced to identify individuals whose origins could be traced to lands at war with Britain and its empire, which subsequently denoted adversary. Most of the time, the prisoners of war (POW) were civilians and non-combatants. The chapter explains how the internees' experience there would be defined by the ambiguity in their status as both POWs and civilians. It reflects on the narratives of the Banff/Castle Mountain camp internees, which are full of misery and despair.
