Abstract
This chapter introduces the cultural specificities of the Canadian peacekeeping myth and demonstrates how this mythology has been reinforced through academic theorisation, popular culture and political memorialisation. Outlines how four key values have been associated with the Canadian peacekeeping mythology – paternal helpfulness, altruism, non-violence and innocence – and suggest that the power of the peacekeeper mythology lies in the emotional resonance of these characteristics believed to reflect unique Canadian ethico-political values
