Abstract
Dans le débat sur la pensée-cinéma, il n’est fait référence explicitement ou implicitement qu’à une certaine sorte de cinéma, narratif ou documentaire. Norman McLaren, par son oeuvre singulière comme par son domaine d’exercice, le cinéma d’animation, nous demande de réfléchir différemment sur ce sujet : comment la pensée-cinéma investit-elle ce genre de film où le diégétique régresse, tandis que le filmique même redevient l’enjeu majeur ? Comment cette exploration de la définition du médium travaille-t-elle la pensée et comment s’accommode-t-elle d’un privilège accordé à la plasticité filmique ? En plus du fort sentiment d’accomplissement que donne l’ensemble de son oeuvre, McLaren nous offre l’occasion de renouveler la théorie du cinéma en la pensant autrement.
