Abstract
Prenant au mot l’affirmation de Gilles Carle selon laquelle La vraie nature de Bernadette est un film « presque philosophique », l’objectif de cet article est d’expliciter le contenu philosophique de cette oeuvre en prenant pour point d’appui le Supplément au voyage de Bougainville de Denis Diderot. Plus précisément, il s’agira de montrer l’originalité philosophique de la conception du rapport de la nature et de la culture avancée par Gilles Carle. Au contraire de certains penseurs des Lumières qui utilisent les sociétés dites « primitives » comme une sorte d’idéal utopique duquel les sociétés européennes devraient se rapprocher, la dimension utopique de La vraie nature de Bernadette s’arrime paradoxalement à une volonté de réalisme puisqu’elle permet à Gilles Carle de témoigner des contradictions et des ambivalences profondes de la culture québécoise des années 70.
