Depuis deux décennies, on assiste à la multiplication des études en laboratoire cherchant à comprendre l’impact de diverses caractéristiques d’un jeu vidéo sur l’immersion du joueur à l’aide d’appareils de biométrie parfois inconfortables et intimidants. Le groupe de recherche Homo Ludens s’est intéressé aux effets d’une telle médiation sur l’expérience des joueurs et plus particulièrement sur leur concentration, leur engagement et leur immersion. Dans ce chapitre, nous présentons les résultats assez surprenants de notre recherche : le contexte de jeu en laboratoire et le recours à des instruments de biométrie n’ont pas nui à l’immersion des participants, mais ont, au contraire, favorisé la focalisation de leur attention sur le jeu et leur sentiment de transport dans l’environnement vidéoludique. Nous explorons alors différentes pistes d’explications pour éclairer ces résultats en nous appuyant sur des différentes théories en études du jeu. Nous suggérons finalement une série de précautions que les chercheurs peuvent prendre pour minimiser les effets de leur médiation dans le cadre d’une recherche en laboratoire impliquant des joueurs.
