Abstract
Cet article observe et analyse la relation qu’entretiennent l’identité sexuelle, en particulier l’homosexualité, et la régionalité, cette topique du « régional », dans les représentations, expression connotée de « ce qui vient de la région ». Le corpus retenu se compose des films de Chloé Robichaud ( Sarah préfère la course ), de Xavier Dolan ( J’ai tué ma mère; Laurence Anyways; Tom à la ferme ), de Guy Édoin ( Marécages ) et de Denis Côté ( Vic + Flo ont vu un ours ). L’auteur s’intéresse aux stéréotypes auxquels font appel les scénarios, notamment aux analogies entre la région et le primitivisme, l’isolement, l’ignorance, la bigoterie, la xénophobie, mais aussi la liberté, la rédemption, la filiation et leurs affects. Le territoire y apparaît moins comme l’objet d’une recherche que comme un réservoir de connotations; il en va de même pour l’homosexualité. Ces connotations oscillent entre la noirceur, le tragique et l’horreur, sauf dans le cas de Sarah préfère la course , où ni l’identité sexuelle ni la régionalité — contrairement aux stéréotypes — ne viennent faire dévier la protagoniste de sa trajectoire.
