Le parti pris de cet article consiste à parcourir « l’imaginaire de l’espace » des récits québécois de la terre à partir de la focale privilégiée d’ un seul et même lieu : celui de la paroisse de Saint-Armand, dans la région de Brome-Missisquoi. Il s’agira ainsi de prendre conscience des moyens par lesquels un espace unique arrive à se répéter , mais aussi, comment, par le biais de différents auteurs, il arrive à se différencier , c’est-à-dire à se recréer . Ce jeu entre répétitions du même et différences hétérogènes sera aussi l’occasion d’une enquête intermédiatique, alors que seront à la fois étudiés des récits romanesques, ceux de William S. Messier, ainsi que des récits filmiques, ceux de Guy Édoin et de Jean Pierre Lefebvre. La constante entre ces différentes fictions de l’espace est, précisément, la terre de Saint-Armand, dont nous découvrirons les diverses strates.
