Abstract
L’insécurité linguistique peut se manifester dans un environnement diglossique tel que l’île de La Réunion, où le français demeure la langue de prestige officielle et institutionnelle, et le créole, la langue maternelle majoritaire non valorisante (L1). Les données recueillies et analysées concernent les profils langagiers des apprenants, leurs productions orales et écrites en anglais, les observations de classes et les entrevues avec les enseignantes. Il faut reconnaître la difficulté du recours légitime au créole dans la sphère scolaire, bien qu’il soit reconnu langue régionale. Cet article étudie le cheminement de l’insécurité linguistique issue du macrosystème réunionnais jusqu’aux cours d’anglais à La Réunion. Selon les profils des apprenants, cette insécurité peut disparaître. Nous exposons ici les retombées des compétences fragiles en langue française, en partie liées aux mélanges issus du contact des langues française et créole, ainsi qu’à une pédagogie inadaptée ; nous exposons également les limites d’un système éducatif français monolithique dans le cadre de l’apprentissage de la langue étrangère anglaise en milieu plurilingue.
