Au Canada, le bilinguisme français-anglais est devenu pour plusieurs personnes une exigence et un avantage pour le marché du travail. Ainsi, beaucoup d’étudiants anglophones rehaussent leurs compétences en français pendant leurs études universitaires. La maîtrise des compétences linguistiques étant essentielle à la réussite scolaire, nous avons étudié le rapport à la lecture et à l’écriture en français et en anglais d’étudiants anglophones inscrits à un programme de baccalauréat en milieu universitaire immersif en français. En plus de mettre au jour les attitudes, les conceptions, les représentations, les émotions et les sentiments liés à la lecture et à l’écriture, cette étude établit un lien entre l’insécurité linguistique et la volonté d’un étudiant d’apprendre et de choisir le français comme moyen de communication et d’information. L’analyse du rapport à l’écrit constitue donc un outil permettant de repérer l’insécurité linguistique qu’un étudiant peut ressentir et un catalyseur favorisant l’inclusion ainsi que l’estime de soi.
