Le personnel enseignant, oeuvrant auprès de personnes adultes immigrantes qui apprennent le français et développent pour la première fois leurs compétences en littératie, dispose de très peu de matériel pédagogique publié conçu spécifiquement pour ces apprenantes et apprenants. Les activités utilisées en classe sont donc souvent créées et partagées à l’intérieur de milieux d’enseignement ou tirées de ressources conçues pour un public différent. Dans ce dernier cas, le matériel pourrait ne pas soutenir les élèves de la manière prévue, voire nuire à leur compréhension ou à leur réalisation de l’activité. Nous proposons donc une grille d’analyse des supports écrits tenant compte de différents éléments de littératie visuelle, soit la charge visuelle du document, les dispositifs d’aide et les images. Cette grille pourrait aider le personnel enseignant à soutenir les personnes adultes en apprentissage du français et de la littératie par la sélection de matériel approprié ou par l’adaptation d’activités conçues pour d’autres apprenants et apprenantes.
