may reduce the likelihood of capture myopathy, through a reduction in the onset of extreme stress.Chemical tranquilizers have been used for small mammals (e.g., Wright 1983), but are not commonly used on bats.We recommend that Hoary Bats be processed as quickly as possible after live-capture, as they may not be as resilient to capture as other species of bats.We also suggest that steel mesh containers may provide substantially more oxygen than cloth bags, which are sometimes used to hold bats, thereby reducing the likelihood of capture myopathy.Bats that do perish after capture should be sent for necropsy to verify the cause of death.Acknowledgments R.
