Abstract
While I teach at a Canadian university where classes meet once weekly for two hours, the suggestions I make are based on courses that meet twice weekly for 75 minutes.I have written the book to be used in its entirety, or chapters can also be used singly or in clusters for individual classes or a thematic unit in a course.• For an Islamic civilization survey, the entire book serves as a complement to Shahab Ahmed's 2016 What Is Islam?: The Importance of Being Islamic, particularly in its movement between the pre-modern and contemporary periods and exploration of ways in which the everyday for South Asian Shiʿa constitutes an "explorative, creative, and contradictory" domain to remember the Karbala events and cultivate devotion to the Imams and Ahl-e Bait (Ahmed 2016, 81).• For one or two classes in an introduction to Islam course, the book can be used to introduce a number of different topics. For a lecture on Shiʿism and the battle of Karbala, Chapter 5 offers a comprehensive introduction.Ritual practice can be addressed through Chapters 5 and 6.I recommend Chapter 6 to address topics relating to lived practices and gender.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
