Abstract
De l’avis général, la mondialisation transforme l'organisation. Cet article propose une théorie de l'organisation qui se prête à l'étude du changement en attirant l'attention sur deux phénomènes quelque peu négligés, à savoir : l'origine de la hiérarchie dans la communication et le rôle joué par cette dernière dans la constitution de l'identité de l'organisation en tant qu'agente. L’auteur soutient que l'organisation débute sous le couvert d’une coorientation vers un objet commun, caractérisée par des relations de mandant·e à mandataire. Un système de coorientation appelé A-B-X est proposé. Les systèmes A-B-X ont deux limites et c'est l'existence de conditions frontières communicationnelles qui explique l’avènement du corporatisme industriel moderne durant les 19ème et 20ème siècles, conditions frontières qui semblent d’ailleurs s'estomper. L'article propose ensuite un modèle réflexif et structurant du processus par lequel les organisations s’érigent en actrices. Il conclut par quelques réflexions sur les causes de stabilité et d'instabilité des organisations dans le cadre de la mondialisation.
