Adipositas, Insulinresistenz und Betazelldysfunktion haben Anteil an der Entstehung eines Typ-2-Diabetes. Wie groß der Einfluss der einzelnen Faktoren ist, konnte bisher nicht eindeutig geklärt werden. Eine kanadische Forschergruppe um Ravi Retnakaran, Leadership Sinai Center for Diabetes, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, verfolgte die Frage nach der pathophysiologischen Bedeutung der 3 Faktoren in einer prospektiven Observationsstudie.
