Abstract
Kenneth Leech's enduring popularity in Canada and the United States is important not least given his “prophetic” critique of what he saw as the preoccupation with individualistic self-development in forms of pastoral care and counseling in North America. Kenneth Leech tackled homelessness, migration, and multiculturalism, among many other concerns about social justice that emerged from the localized struggles in which he became involved. Kenneth Leech's writings frequently reference Alan Ecclestone, an exemplar of theological writing from a parish base. In one place Leech relates an anecdote about visiting a group to speak about justice and being told that he must often be “confused with the other Kenneth Leech who writes books on prayer and spirituality”. Kenneth Leech's work asserts both that race is a myth, a “biological fiction” and that racism is an absolute affront to the gospel of Jesus.
