Resumen El sistema de los números reales es el dominio numérico en el cual se desarrollan conceptos y se validan propiedades del Análisis Matemático vinculadas a sucesiones y series numéricas, funciones continuas, funciones derivables y la noción de integrabilidad, entre otros. Estos desarrollos teóricos son posibles en ℝ y no en ℚ debido a una propiedad que distingue a estos dos cuerpos totalmente ordenados: la propiedad de completitud. En este trabajo, presentamos el diseño y los resultados de una propuesta de enseñanza para introducir la propiedad de completitud vía la convergencia de las sucesiones monótonas crecientes y acotadas superiormente. El diseño de la propuesta considera el doble carácter de herramienta y de objeto de una noción matemática (Douady, 1992) y el metadiscurso de las nociones FUG (Dorier, 1995). Utilizamos un enfoque metodológico interpretativo-cualitativo y como método el estudio de casos (Bisquerra, 2009). El análisis e interpretación de los datos nos permiten afirmar que tres de los cuatro estudiantes que participaron de la experiencia, lograron poner en funcionamiento el carácter de herramienta explícita y de objeto de la completitud.
