T aamusi Qumaq (1933-1993) tait un auteur, un leader et un militant inuk du Nunavik.Son autobiographie est un texte majeur de la littrature inuit.Elle a t initialement publie post-mortem en cinq parties dans la revue Tumivut, dite par l'Institut culturel Avataq, entre 1995et 1998, en inuktitut, anglais et franais (Qumaq 1995a, 1995b, 1996, 1997, 1998).Taamusi Qumaq a commenc crire tardivement dans sa vie, conscient de l'importance de prserver ce qu'il considrait comme essentiel : les coutumes inuit (Qumaq 1988), la langue (Qumaq 1991) et un tmoignage de son vcu (Qumaq 2020).Il a galement rdig des manuels de survie dans l'Arctique publis dans Tumivut.Ses premiers lecteurs sont donc les membres de sa communaut.Taamusi Qumaq a crit tous ses textes en inuktitut, et c'est grce la traduction anglaise et franaise que son oeuvre a pu toucher une audience plus large.L'ouvrage comprend le texte de Taamusi Qumaq en franais, suivi de sa version en inuktitut.Il est galement accompagn d'une introduction rdige par l'anthropologue et linguiste Louis-Jacques Dorais, ainsi que d'une chronologie rappelant les moments marquants de la vie de Taamusi Qumaq et les dates cls de l'histoire du Nunavik.Enfin, une bibliographie des textes crits par Taamusi Qumaq et des articles le concernant sont galement inclus.Bien que court, ce texte est extrmement riche.Taamusi Qumaq nous plonge dans sa vie o les vnements ordinaires se mlent aux grands moments historiques dans l'Arctique canadien.Il nous fait part de son quotidien Puvirnituq, de ses proccupations pour subvenir aux besoins de sa famille, mais il aborde galement des vnements majeurs qui ont profondment impact la vie des Inuit.Il met en lumire les mcanismes par lesquels leur ralit
