Abstract
Au Liban, l’abolition du confessionnalisme politique dans l’objectif d’une laïcisation des institutions est un projet porté de longue date par des organisations de la jeunesse. Les clubs laïques en particulier, très présents dans les universités du pays, s’emploient à mobiliser la société civile dans cet objectif. Ils se heurtent cependant à de nombreux défis, en particulier l’existence d’instances communautaires ancrées dans le système politique et déterminées à conserver leurs prérogatives sur la société libanaise. Cet article analyse les enjeux d’une sécularisation des institutions et de la société tout entière et les moyens mis en oeuvre à cette fin, dans un pays aux prises avec une crise sociale, économique et politique d’ampleur inédite.
