Guillaume Devin suit l’art de la méthode scientifique : c’est en partant d’un constat d’insatisfaction à l’égard de la théorie consacrée des relations internationales qu’il convoque la sociologie et l’histoire afin de concevoir une approche paradigmatique des relations internationales mieux en prise sur l’objet international et surtout sur sa complexité contemporaine. Nul doute que cet effort novateur ouvre, en France et au-delà, des voies nouvelles qui allient une banalisation de l’international comme fait social et une réévaluation du politique qui abandonne ainsi cette configuration mécanique et prédéterminée que la vulgate dominante des relations internationales lui avait conférée sous les oripeaux de la très médiatique géopolitique.
