Abstract
Le récit moderne de l’histoire de la médecine consacre au corps féminin un chapitre remarquable par sa composition et par sa position : la « découverte », partie par partie, nomination par nomination, de l’appareil génital de la femme, aux xvie et xviie siècles. Or, présentée comme l’exploration d’un territoire jusque-là inconnu, l’anatomie du corps féminin remet en cause la hiérarchie alors dite « naturelle » des sexes et son fondement sur l’imperfection des femmes. Comment ce nouvel objet scientifique fut-il intégré au discours sur le corps humain ? En marge et notes ? En partie double ? En « Tiers Livre » ? Les Commentaires sur l’Anatomie de Mondino (Berengario da Carpi, 1521), la Fabrique du corps humain (Vésale, 1543), et le troisième livre de La Dissection des parties du corps humain (Estienne, 1545) proposent, dans leurs stratégies de composition, trois réponses distinctes où se dit, graduellement et par hésitation, le statut inédit du féminin dans la pensée de l’humain.
