In this work, a 23-25 GHz 3D Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) patch antenna dedicated to 5G applications was designed for gain enhancement purpose by incorporating a 4 × 5 unit cell FSS network. The overall dimensions of the resulting antenna are (40 × 40 × 34) mm3. A comparative analysis was conducted to evaluate its performance at various distances between the antenna and the periodic structure. Simulation results indicate a gain improvement of almost 7 dBi.
