Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to develop a sustainable and economic proposal on the use of a sanitary landfill in Valle de las Palmas, Tijuana Baja California, Mexico to produce biogas and generate electricity.This proposal was measured with a financial analysis model using the Retscreen Expert® software to analyze five variables: The financial viability indicator, income taxes, asset depreciation, cash flows before and after taxes, and a risk validation of the model. These variables were used as indicators to measure how viable the project is financially.It is worth mentioning that this software was designed by the Canadian government, and it is widely used in the decision making for clean energy projects. It uses a quantitative technique to estimate the costs and benefits and the return on investment of the project in a certain period of time and thus evaluate the feasibility of the project and its economic viability.This calculation will help us consider sustainable projects that will help achieve the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals in Mexico. These goals are also present within the 2030 agenda, and protection is also included within these goals.This kind of projects related to the use and destruction of methane to generate biogas are called clean development mechanism (MDL) projects and are considered internationally a source of environmental benefits and economic income for countries.
