La Carta Internacional para la Educación del Ocio (1994) y la Declaración de Quebec (2008) hacen referencia a la dimensión comunitaria en el planteamiento de las políticas y actuaciones de ocio educativo. Ambos documentos sostienen que la implantación del ocio educativo en el marco de la comunidad supone un proceso de desarrollo comunitario, entendiendo este como un espacio geográfico con diferentes agentes e intereses que tienen una afinidad e interconexión entre sí y como un proceso que usa la educación (formal, informal y no formal) y el liderazgo para aumentar la calidad de vida de los individuos y los grupos que viven en esa comunidad. Este artículo conceptualiza el ocio educativo y señala sus antecedentes y su configuración actual desde una base comunitaria y una apuesta estratégica en términos de cohesión social. Asimismo, indica claves, retos, oportunidades y dificultades del ocio educativo en el desarrollo de las comunidades desde una mirada inclusiva.
