Abstract
Nos estudos culturais aplicados à literatura, identificamos o contexto da época do discurso narrativo, a mitologia ressignificada, além de debates históricos sociais e culturais acerca do processo ficcional. Nesse pensar literário, elencamos a literatura para discussão e compreensão da realidade apresentada, no sentido de diálogo com debates críticos, românticos e/ou realísticos. Diante disso, apresentamos, sobre a luz da importância da literatura e do viés interpretativo, discussões prementes do livro O Uraguai: um poema épico que traz consigo a história de um período de guerra, revelando-nos traços ideológicos do autor que, apesar de ser jesuíta, exalta, em sua obra, o português Marquês de Pombal que está na luta contra indígenas e jesuítas. A disputa territorial e o colonialismo representado na obra, ainda se faz presente nos dias de hoje, levando-nos à conclusão de que a discussões sobre esses assuntos precisam ser ampliadas para que cheguemos ao ambiente escolar, visto que, as cronologias apontadas no aludido poema se fazem extremamente atuais, ainda que a história dos indígenas Caçambo e Lindoya em oposição ao jesuíta Balda sejam adaptadas à realidade brasileira do século XVIII.
