Futurité blanche en crise à Montréal : temps et espaces de la gestion de la race

Abstract
Cet article porte sur la géographie de la futurité blanche au Québec, autour du cas de la ville de Montréal. Par ce concept, qui rend compte de la manière dont la blanchité est construite par rapport à l’avenir et comment l’imagination du futur façonne les discours et les pratiques raciales actuels, notre but est de saisir la gestion de la race dans ses dimensions temporelles et géographiques. Nous proposons alors une analyse générale de la futurité blanche et de la manière dont des crises de cette futurité ont émergé au Québec à partir des années 1970. Ces crises sont liées à l’augmentation des flux de migrations globaux, mais s’expliquent aussi par le déclin de la natalité blanche. Nous examinons ensuite deux moments qui mettent en évidence comment les altérités noire et musulmane sont mobilisées comme étant opposées à la blanchité et construites comme mettant en péril son futur.
