« Epilogue » des Daft Punk. Un outil-oeuvre de communication à l’ère du Web1

Abstract
Le 22 février 2021, les Daft Punk annonçaient la fin de leur carrière dans une vidéo intitulée « Epilogue » publiée sur YouTube. Conformément aux habitudes du groupe, son message passe par l’image et la musique, excluant toute communication verbale, et laisse une place conséquente à l’interprétation, comme le ferait une oeuvre d’art. Nous nous interrogerons sur cet objet de communication particulier, qui n’est pas directement promotionnel, et qui n’aurait vraisemblablement pas pu exister autrement que dans le cyberespace : de quoi est-il constitué ? Comment le comprendre ? En quoi est-il le reflet de son époque ? Nous montrerons en quoi « Epilogue » relève de l’intermédialité et s’appuie sur les codes de la culture Web. Cette étude de cas ouvrira des questionnements plus larges sur la communication des artistes et leur rapport au public à l’ère du Web, sur la complémentarité des moyens d’expression artistiques, et sur l’hybridité ontologique d’un outil de communication conçu à la façon d’un objet artistique.
