Abstract
L’étude porte sur les noms d’humains et leurs équivalences masculin-féminin (un marchand, une marchande ; un voisin, une voisine, etc.) dans un corpus de grammaires et de dictionnaires parus entre 1530 et 1660. La recherche vise à dégager les pratiques d’exemplification et de consignation du féminin. Il a été constaté que les grammaires montrent très vite une attention soutenue aux paires masculins-féminins alors que les dictionnaires marquent un net retard sur ce plan. L’explication avancée repose essentiellement sur le fait que les pratiques lexicographiques s’inscrivent dans une consignation de listes de mots plutôt que dans un déploiement des formes grammaticales.
