Abstract
Artykuł przedstawia sylwetki braci Kulawych – Wojciecha i Jana Wilhelma, kapłanów pierwszej polskiej parafii Ducha Świętego w Winnipeg oraz omawia ich rolę w budowaniu kompletności instytucjonalnej społeczności imigranckiej wokół parafii jako centrum życia religijnego, społecznego i narodowego. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono znaczeniu języka dla budowania tożsamości etnicznej w kontekście prowincjonalnego ustawodawstwa zezwalającego na dwujęzyczność oświaty oraz na toczący się konflikt wokół szkół pomiędzy katolikami i protestantami w Manitobie, a także na rolę identyfikacji etnicznej w podkreślaniu odrębności etnicznej parafian i występowaniu wewnętrznych antagonizmów.
