Abstract
La situation sanitaire récente a rappelé avec clarté que le travail social présente un déficit de légitimité qu’il s’agit de restaurer. Pour ce faire, un certain nombre d’acteurs réaffirme l’idée que cette quête passera par la reconnaissance du travail social en discipline scientifique. Cette option est selon les auteurs de cet article une fausse piste qu’il s’agit de déconstruire à partir du contexte socio-historique ou socio-politique (rapport entre écoles et université, new-management, production de savoirs...). Pour reprendre le titre de l’article, l’absence d’œuvre du travail social, c’est cette sorte d’impossibilité de produire lui-même ses propres énoncés, sa « vérité ». Ce texte propose quelques pistes pour éclairer les « modes d’existence » et les régimes de véridiction susceptibles de rendre compte de pratiques dont l’absence de reconnaissance et de légitimité entretient une opacité encombrée de discours hétéronomes qui tentent de suppléer l’absence d’œuvre.
