Abstract
Cet article représente une contribution à la définition du travail social comme discipline à partir de la démarche théorique proposée par Alvaro Pires (1995) pour circonscrire les frontières disciplinaires de la criminologie. Notre contribution mobilise trois de ses concepts : l’objet, l’activité de connaissance et le champ d’étude. Nous y avons ajouté celui d’activité de praxis . Ensemble, ces quatre concepts permettent de mettre en lumière le projet spécial de la discipline « travail social », avec un esprit d’ouverture. L’enjeu est en effet de renforcer une identité professionnelle tout en permettant la poursuite, au sein de la discipline, d’un dialogue démocratique entre des points de vue opposés.
