Abstract
À partir des cas de deux journalistes ayant travaillé au journal Le Progrès du Saguenay à titre de rédacteurs et de directeurs entre 1918 et 1943, l’article scrute les stratégies qui guident l’usage et le non-usage de signatures fictives dans le monde de la presse. Ces stratégies peuvent relever de visées individuelles, d’enjeux éditoriaux pour un journal de région périphérique cherchant à rehausser son image et ses ventes, ou de la propagande de l’Église, puisque Le Progrès se définit comme un journal catholique. Les journalistes choisis, un prêtre et un laïc, ont des objectifs de carrière journalistique distincts et ne sont pas soumis aux mêmes contraintes professionnelles, ce qui se reflète dans leur utilisation de signatures inventées.
