W kwietniu 1956 roku ukazał się pierwszy numer „Tempo Presente”, czyli pisma, które przez ponad dekadę miało komentować bieżącą politykę europejską oraz kształtować literackie gusta pewnego kręgu włoskich czytelników. Założycielami „Tempo Presente” byli dwaj cenieni intelektualiści i pisarze – Ignazio Silone (1900–1978) oraz Nicola Chiaromonte (1905–1972).
