Kemitraan pentahelix memiliki peran penting dalam pembangunan pariwisata berkelanjutan / sustainable tourism development (STD). Karena potensi alam dan budayanya, pertumbuhan desa wisata dan/atau wisata pedesaan di Indonesia jadi meningkat. Oleh sebab itu dalam perencanaan-perancangan desa wisata dan/atau wisata pedesaan seringkali menyebutkan kemitraan pentahelix. Secara definitif STD memiliki tiga aspek penting, yaitu menjunjung tinggi sosial-budaya, mempertahankan alam agar dapat meningkatkan perekenomian sebagai hasil akhirnya. Kajian ini berfungsi untuk menjelaskan apa saja kontribusi dari masing-masing pelaku kemitraan pentahelix pada desa wisata dan/atau wisata pedesaan berdasarkan STD. Kajian ini berifat kualitatif dan berjenis naratif. Data dikumpulkan dari jurnal dengan obyek dan tema sejenis. Sedangkan data dianalisis dengan metode komparatif. Ditemukan bahwa masing-masing pelaku kemitraan pentahelix memiliki peran yang sama besar, namun terjadi pada waktu yang berbeda. Sebelum memutuskan menjadi desa wisata maupun wisata pedesaan diperlukan komitmen dari kemitraan pentahelix agar tidak terlalu banyak mengubah alam, tetap mempertahankan sosial-budaya dan mengandung prinsip green economy
