Abstract
The overall objective of this article is to contribute to reflection on the social debate going on in North America and in Europe regarding the best means - legislation or collective bargaining - to ensure professional equality and equity in the area of employment for women. The general question that guided our work in a recent research project was whether gender-based practices exist in collective bargaining. Although there are several analytical dimensions to the research project, we are particularly interested in verifying whether these differentiated practices, should they arise, might have an impact on the very content of collective bargaining and in particular regarding equal opportunity or employment equity for women in the organizations.
