Abstract
L’idée que la Francophonie est un projet largement africain suscite fréquemment l’étonnement. En s’appuyant sur l’examen des principales tendances démographiques qui se dessinent à l’échelle mondiale, l’Afrique apparaît de fait comme un cas singulier, puisque la population francophone y a crû de façon très importante depuis plus de cinquante ans. Ces tendances pourraient se poursuivre, mais de nombreuses incertitudes pèsent sur la place du français sur le continent africain .
