Abstract
The article discusses the main milestones of the life of a prominent researcher of archeology and history of Altai, long-term head of the Department of National History of the Altai State Pedagogical University, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Alexey Pavlovich Umansky. The author emphasizes its role in the study of the archaeological monuments of Altai and the history of the “Teleut land” - a large ethnopolitical formation of Southern Siberia of the XVII - frst quarter of the XVIII century. Memorialization of the scientist’s legacy includes the preparation of flms, the organization of photo exhibitions, conferences, the publication of articles and monographs dedicated to A. P. Umansky, the publication of archaeological materials from his excavations, the naming of Professor A. P. Umansky to one of the classrooms of the Altai State Pedagogical University and other events.
