Abstract
Le roller derby est un divertissement nord-américain populaire entre les années 1930 et 1970. En 2003, ce jeu sportif est recréé sous une forme carnavalesque, alors exclusivement pratiquée par les femmes. La première équipe française apparaît en 2009. Aujourd’hui, plus d’une centaine de clubs sont répartis sur l’ensemble du territoire. L’auteure découvre l’existence de ce sport en 2019 lorsque la possibilité de participer à un contrat doctoral s’offre à elle. Deux ans après le début de son immersion, elle a cherché à remonter le temps écoulé, de son entrée sur ce terrain jusqu’en septembre 2021, afin de questionner l’inconfort procuré par l’enquête. Persuadée un temps d’être « empêchée » dans sa recherche, elle montrerai par ce récit comment, en objectivant le blocage ethnographique qui la cantonnait à la marge de l’équipe, elle est parvenue à redéfinir sa place en tant que chercheuse sur le terrain du roller derby, et à s’intégrer en tant que joueuse.
