Книжка Наталії Кононенко написана в рамках проєкту, що передбачав дослідження ритуальних форм життя українців, які мешкають у Преріях Канади (Sancturaryproject).Це підсумок десяти літньої польової праці (2008-2018).Н. Кононенко разом із колегами щоліта присвячувала один місяць (червень) спілкуванню зі своїми інформантами.У монографії є розділи про українське весілля, про обрядовість, що освячує народження і смерть, про cакральні об'єкти (церкву і цвинтар) та календарні свята (Різдво і Великдень).Спостерігаючи за життям людей крізь призму обрядової культури, авторка розмірковує над тим, як саме ритуали формують громадську солідарність.Однак стрижнем праці, що побачила світ під час повномасштабної російсько-української війни, є роздуми про українську ідентичність.Н. Кононенко була приголомшена звісткою про війну, що призвела до масової міграції українців.У вступному слові вона наголосила на тому, що українська традиційна культура є настільки потужною, що, потрапляючи в нове середовище (скажімо, у канадські Прерії), вона не тільки не гине, а й розвивається, утілюється в нові форми.Дослідження обрядової сфери українців канадських Прерій під кутом зору формування і збереження ідентичності ставить книжку Н.
