Abstract
Nous vivons à une époque où la peur, l'angoisse d'une guerre conventionnelle ou nucléaire nous guette.Mais quelles sont les passions, les désirs qui réaniment sans cesse les affrontements guerriers?Pour répondre à cette question nous limiterons notre étude à trois thè mes: gloire, crainte et désir.Quel rôle jouent la gloire, la crainte et le désir dans le phénomène «guerre»?Nous avons choisi délibérément d'articuler notre réflexion à partir d'un auteur: Hobbes.Thomas Hobbes naquit en 1588 à Westport et fut élève à l'Université d'Oxford qu'il quitta en 1608.Il fit un séjour en France de 1629 à 1631 où il connut, à Paris, le père Mersenne et d'autres amis de Descartes.À cette époque, il découvrit les éléments d'Euclide qui devien dront pour lui l'aspect paradigmatique de sa méthode.Hobbes est familier des idées fondamentales du matérialisme de Bacon.Ainsi, sa théorie de la connais sance prendra forme dans le monde de l'empirisme et du sensualisme: tout savoir dérive de l'expérience et celleci s'alimente à un premier moteur, la sensation.
