Abstract
Le Québec fait face actuellement à une importante pénurie du personnel enseignant. Cette pénurie est certes exacerbée par le décrochage professionnel en cours de carrière, mais il s’avère nécessaire de documenter aussi les abandons durant les études en enseignement. L’objectif de cet article est de brosser un portrait de l’abandon des étudiants inscrits dans les programmes de formation à l’enseignement et de dégager les facteurs les plus importants qui causent ces abandons. Une enquête, facilitée par l’ADEREQ, a été réalisée en 2022 auprès d’étudiants inscrits aux programmes de formation à l’enseignement dans des universités québécoises francophones et anglophones (n=2915). Les résultats indiquent que l’intention d’abandonner les études est très présente (48 %) et que quelques étudiants n’envisagent même pas de faire carrière en enseignement (3 %) ou d’y rester pendant plus de 5 ans (3 %). Certains facteurs personnels et surtout externes permettent d’expliquer l’abandon.
