Depuis quelques années, nous entendons de plus en plus parler de pénuries d’enseignant.es au Québec. Il semble d’ailleurs se dégager un large consensus sur l’urgence d’agir pour trouver des solutions à court terme à cette problématique, tant du côté du gouvernement que des milieux scolaires et des syndicats. Pourtant, la pénurie de personnel enseignant, telle qu’elle est vécue aujourd’hui, demeure difficile à circonscrire en raison du manque de données permettant d’avoir un juste portrait de la situation. Dans cet article, nous proposons de décrire l’ampleur du phénomène à partir de données recueillies par le biais d’une enquête réalisée auprès de représentants des services des ressources humaines de 34 différents centres de services scolaires du Québec.
