Tuntutan mutu pelayanan kesehatan gigi dan mulut mengalami peningkatan seiring dengan perkembangan zaman, kuhusnya pada daerah Aceh pada tahun 2013 mencapai 64% penduduk yang mengalami karies (masalah gigi dan mulut). Penanganannya kini menjadi lebih spesifik sehingga memerlukan rumah sakit khusus gigi dan mulut. Rumah sakit ini mencakup pelayanan gawat darurat, rawat jalan maupun rawat inap. Suatu perencanaan dan perancangan rumah sakit khusus gigi dan mulut dibutuhkan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat akan kesehatan gigi dan mulut sehingga dapat memfasilitasi dan melayani kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Perancangan RSGM ini berlandaskan pada sebuah konsep Biophilic yang mana proses penyembuhan pasien tidak hanya didapatkan melalui pihak medis tetapi juga didapatkan dari bangunan yang digunakan oleh pasien sebagai objek rancangan.
